At 6 pm on Friday 16 September, Cléo and the Alcazar Library will stage a public debate on “Reading/Writing in the Digital Age”. Held at the end of the Open Electronic Publishing Summer University organised by Cléo, the debate will centre on the launch of the Institut if:lire by Alain Pierrot and Samuel Petit. This is the latest in the network of Institutes for the Future of the Book created in the United States by Bob Stein. A second was set up by Chris Meade in London and a third in Australia. The Institutes for the Future of the Book are “think and do tanks” that embrace ideas and pilot projects relating to electronic publishing. Alain Pierrot and Samuel Petit will explain how they intend specifically to investigate the question of digital reading by carrying out studies and experiments. Their presentation will be followed by a debate with the participants at the Summer University and members of the public. In particular, the audience will include Hervé le Crosnier, François Bon, Octavio Kulesz, Michel Roland and Marin Dacos.

The debate is open to the public without the need for registration. Feel free to bring anyone you think will be interested to debate with us the future of reading in the digital age!
